Description

Join us for an evening of Flamenco with Cristina San Gregorio and friends.

 

"Tremolina" is the unexpected stir before the storm - a flurry of excitement that transforms calm into celebration. It is an awakening of the senses that charges the air with anticipation; much like Flamenco itself.

At the heart of this atmosphere, two dancers (Cristina San Gregorio and Lourdes Fernández) weave a dialogue, accompanied by guitar (Adrián Solá) and vocals (Mónica García).

That stir and commotion—that Tremolina—travels from the ruffled dresses, the fringed shawls and the souls of the performers directly to the audience.

Ladies and gentlemen, La Tremolina is about to break loose.

One night in London offers the chance to experience the intimacy and emotion of this art form up close.

 

 

Flow of the night:

5.30pm - Doors open - enjoy a drink and snacks in our on-site bar

7.45pm - Bar closes, and entrance to the studio commences

8.00pm - Performance starts

8.45pm (approx.) - Interval

9.30pm - Performance ends

10.30pm - Bar closes

About Cristina San Gregorio: 

Cristina was born in Alpedrete, a mountain town from Madrid. She studied Spanish Dance at the Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Carmen Amaya, where she received a scholarship to extend her studies at the Andalusian Dance Center in Seville. She left Seville to start working in different dance companies for a number of years, such as Joaquín Cortés, Flamencos en Route (Switzerland), Rafael Aguilar Ballet Company or Carmen Mota, among others. 

She then graduated in Flamenco Pedagogy at the Conservatorio Superior de Danza María de Ávila. She has also performed in some of Madrid’s top tablaos, including Las Tablas, La Cueva de Lola and Candela.

Cristina now teaches a number of dance classes at various schools in Madrid, alongside performing & touring internationally with Rafaela Carrasco's flamenco company.

Lourdes Fernandez - Bailarina (dancer)

Lourdes has been dancing since she was five years old. From that moment on, her whole life developed through the learning of flamenco. She studied dance at the Madrid Conservatory, graduated at Rey Juan Carlos University and completed her Masters in Performing Arts. She also taught dance at the American Saint Louis University of Madrid and participated in the International Dance Gala for UNESCO.
 
Determined to step outside her comfort zone, Lourdes arrived in London in 2012. Since then, she has performed in renowned venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, The Union Chapel, Richmix. In addition, Lourdes participated in various festivals throughout the UK nicluding City of London Festival, Birmingham Jazz Festival, Brighton Festival, Latitude Festival, and Salisbury International Arts Festival. She has been involved in a number of bands and art organisations - Alma Gitana, Ida y Vuelta Ensemble, Live & Local - as both dancer and choreographer.
 
In 2022, she was a dancer for the Scottish Opera in the production of Ainadamar. She is currently director of her own dance company, Lourdes Fernandez Flamenco. With this, she has created Flamenco Raices, which she took all over the United Kingdom; and Flamenco Origenes, which is a production supported by the Arts Council of England.


Adrián Solá - Guitarra (guitar)

Adrian is a Flamenco guitar specialist, who has been perfecting his technique to offer a curated repertoire of essential masterpieces from the Flamenco guitar realm. He is also an accomplished and sought-after accompanist for the traditions of dance and singing.  Born in Barcelona, Adrian showed an early interest in all kinds of music and borrowed his father's guitar around 12 years old. A hobby at first, in his teenage years it became almost a necessity to understand how music works in a more rational way. He then enrolled at The Modern Music School of Badalona to study musical language, harmony, jazz flute and flamenco guitar


Mónica García - Cante (voice)

Monica, originally from Frailes (Jaen) is based in London. She started singing at a very young age inspired by her grandfather Luis. Studying music by herself, Monica now works with highly acclaimed musicians, dancers and singers in renowned venues such as Jazz Café (London) and Playhouse (Salisbury).

 

 

Notes on venue and seating arrangements

The show is performed in our ground-floor Performance Studio. This space has hosted numerous famous Flamenco artists from both the UK and Spain over the last 6 years. The studio provides a small, very intimate venue, with seating for a maximum of 60 people. The room has a professional PA system.  As this is a multi-use performance space there is no raised stage or tiered seating. Seating is arranged flexibly on the day to best suit the number who have booked to attend, but is usually in a U shape around the artists.  

Seats are not numbered or pre-allocated. We can only reserve seating for those who notify us in advance that they have accessibility needs. Once we open the doors to the Studio, the audience enters in a line and then everybody finds their preferred seat from those available. Please, however, be sympathetic to those with the greatest need to have a seat of their choice.

Coats and bags can be left in a temporary cloakroom upstairs, but note this room is not secure or monitored during the show, and valuables should not be left there.

 

Have a drink too!

Entrance to the show is via our on-site wine bar, La Bodega, which will be open for drinks and bar snacks from 5.30 to 10.30pm. We serve a wide range of Spanish wines, beers, spirits and cocktails from across Spain and Latin America, as well as soft drinks. Interval drinks can be pre-ordered at the bar before the show, to avoid the rush.

 

Note on payments - our bar is cashless, so all drinks and snacks purchases must be paid by card.

Will I receive a ticket for this event?

No, we do not send physical or digital tickets for any of our events, so once you have booked you will receive a payment confirmation only. Once you arrive for the event, please approach the bar to let us know of your arrival.
What happens if I can't attend the event after booking?

We would love you to book with us, but please make sure you will be free to attend the event you are booking. Unfortunately, we are unable to refund fees paid, in full or in part, or to reallocate them to another booking or date.

I love flamenco shows and my visit to Battersea Spanish was the first time that I watched the dance up close instead of sitting away from the stage. I could see the feet tapping heels and toes and felt the passion of the dancers. The singer and the guitarist were both brilliant. The whole evening was very enjoyable. I have had my 'Flamenco fix'. The bar staff were very friendly and they went out of her way to make us feel welcome. I would go back and watch flamenco shows again and even enrol myself for the classes.

Very friendly and intimate venue - appropriate for tablao flamenco. Superb performances by all four participants - 2 dancers, brilliant vocalist and outstanding guitarist. Better than any flamenco shows I've seen at larger West End venues.
