Description

We are delighted to welcome back the sensational Leo Power for one night only, presenting : Tangolé — an exciting fusion of Argentine folk and flamenco.

Tangolé

Leo Power, a flamenco singer from Cadiz and a connoisseur of various musical cultures, felt the urge to bring Argentine folklore to life through a flamenco show. In London, she met Ignacio Lusardi, an Argentine musician, producer, and flamenco enthusiast, and Victor Ramos ("El Chuli"), a flamenco dancer and musician from Málaga who also plays the accordion. With them, she was finally able to bring to life an idea that had been on her mind for years: TANGOLÉ, a cultural melting pot of Spanish guitar, flamenco voice, flamenco dance, and accordion.

In this intimate show, you’ll experience a cultural dialogue between flamenco and Argentine folklore — through the rhythm of the Spanish guitar, the soul of the flamenco voice, the strength of the dance, and the evocative melodies of the accordion.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see these wonderful artists unite on the London stage for a bold new flamenco journey.

Artists

Leo Power

Leo Power is a singer and promoter from the La Viña neighbourhood of Cádiz, passionate about music since childhood. At 20, she began writing songs and playing guitar. Rooted in flamenco, her style expanded to include Cuban, Brazilian, African, Argentine tango, rock, jazz, and boleros.

Over 28 years as a traditional and flamenco fusion singer, she has developed a unique style, collaborating with musicians from Cádiz and around the world. Her projects include work with the flamenco dance company Felipe (Algeciras, UK); Nino Ruiz (Andalusian rock); Octavio Kotan (Bastinazo Habanero – Cuban timba rock, son, and flamenco); Sura Susso (African-flamenco fusion); and Pájaro Beliantig (Argentina) with Tangonautas, which appeared at the Festival de Folclore de Cosquín.

From this experience, she created Los Carnavales del Mundo and El Power Trío, a world music journey with Pablo Domínguez and Malick Mbengue. She has performed across Spain and in Guatemala, Argentina, California, Gambia, the Netherlands, Ireland, the UK, and Scotland.

Leo collaborated with Daniel Melingo at the La Línea Festival in London. Tangolé has been invited to appear in Melingo’s next documentary, and she will create a flamenco version of one of his songs for the album Tangos Bajos.

Notes on venue and seating arrangements

The show is performed in our ground-floor Performance Studio. This space has hosted numerous famous Flamenco artists from both the UK and Spain over the last 6 years. The studio provides a small, extremely intimate venue, where you are only a few feet away from the performers. There is a capacity of 55 people. The room has a professional sound system and stage lighting. No food allowed in the studio.

As this is a multi-use performance space there is no raised stage, nor tiered seating. Simple chairs are laid out on the day to best suit the number who have booked to attend. The arrangement is usually in a U shape around the artists who perform in the central space, providing views from 3 directions..

Seats are not numbered or pre-allocated. We can only reserve seating on the front rows for those who notify us in advance that they have a disability or special access requirment Once we open the doors to the Studio, the audience enters in a line and everybody finds their preferred seat from those available. Please, however, be sympathetic to those with the greatest need to have a seat of their choice.

Coats and bags can be left in a temporary cloakroom upstairs, but note this room is not secure or monitored during the show, and valuables should not be left there.

Have a drink too!

Entrance to the show is via our on-site Tapas Bar, La Bodega, which will be open for drinks, from 6pm to 10.30pm. We serve a wide range of Spanish wines, beers, spirits and cocktails from across Spain and Latin America, as well as soft drinks. Interval drinks can be pre-ordered at the bar before the show, to avoid the rush.

Note on payments - our bar is cashless, so all purchases must be paid by card.

Very friendly and intimate venue - appropriate for tablao flamenco. Superb performances by all four participants - 2 dancers, brilliant vocalist and outstanding guitarist. Better than any flamenco shows I've seen at larger West End venues.

Phenomenal show of “Gaditano” talent. Mesmerised by finger work and sound of the flamenco guitar. Delightful performance of male flamenco dancer, incredibly flexible, agile, and spellbinding performance and great passion and vocal range from the singer demonstrating flamenco and its influences from Cadiz, Triana, Argentina, Cuba, Africa and Mexico to name a few. A cultural and musical delight in two 40 min sections. Not to mention the warm, community, welcoming atmosphere of drinks and paella, cooked freshly in view. A real gem of an evening.

What people have to say

A wonderful place I keep coming back to again and again. The staff are sooo friendly. I eat, drink, visit flamenco shows, watch films, and now have the most enjoyable Spanish lessons I’ve had so far. And my partner learns flamenco here, so an extra excuse to come and drink and eat even more superb food and enjoy good company in a relaxing Spanish atmosphere. If you’re interested in Spanish people and culture, you really have to visit.

Attended such a fun and enjoyable flamenco workshop in the afternoon and then watched an amazing professional show in the evening at this fabulous Spanish cultural centre in Battersea last Saturday. Such a friendly and welcoming place and event. Indulged in delicious tapas and drinks at the onsite restaurant. Already booked for next month's event. Highly recommended.
