Understanding Our Approach to Levels at Battersea Spanish
At Battersea Spanish, around two-thirds of our new students join us without having studied with us before, and we know that figuring out which class is right for your level can sometimes feel confusing. That’s completely normal!
Our approach to grouping students is flexible and realistic, recognising that language learning is not an exact science and that everyone’s strengths and experiences are different.
While our courses follow a structured sequence, the difference between levels, for example, between Pre-Intermediate 2 and Pre-Intermediate 3, is often quite small, especially for new students who haven’t used our textbooks before.
A confident Pre-Intermediate 2 learner who speaks other languages might perform better than a shy Pre-Intermediate 3 student returning to Spanish after several years. Within any group, small variations in level are completely normal, and our experienced teachers are skilled at adapting lessons to support everyone’s progress.
If your online level test suggests, for example, Intermediate 2, it’s absolutely fine to consider a class slightly above or below that level — such as Intermediate 1 or Intermediate 3 — if the schedule works better for you. What matters most is regular practice and being in a group that fits your timetable and learning style.
However, if you’ve already completed a course with us — say, Intermediate 1 last term — you should continue to the next level rather than repeating the same class, since it follows the same book and materials.
If you’re new to Battersea Spanish or simply unsure which level to choose, we warmly encourage you to arrange a quick chat or level assessment with our team before booking.
And if you’re already studying with us, feel free to have a word with your teacher in your last lesson — they’ll be happy to confirm the best next step or offer personalised suggestions and support.
