Top 5 Netflix Series To Practise Your Spanish

We know how much everyone loves a good Netflix binge. Therefore, we’ve compiled a list of 5 top series and shows on Netflix to learn Spanish with.

  1. Narcos

If you think an entire show in Spanish is too much, Narcos will be a great pick as about half of the dialogue is in English. Narcos follows the infamous story of the real Colombian drug trafficker Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) from his humble origins to global drug lord; and Javier Pena, a Mexican DEA agent sent to Colombia on a U.S. mission to capture him during the ’80s and early ’90s.

The show perfectly intertwines Spanish and English in the way the real characters must have used both languages, helping to improve your Spanish speaking skills even further.

  1. La casa de las flores (The House of Flowers)

Did you think your family was dysfunctional? Well, wait until you meet the De La Moras familia. Virginia De La Mora has everything one could want, a loving husband, three children, and a famous flower shop in Mexico City soon to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Then, in the middle of her husband’s lavish birthday party, a woman hangs herself inside the flower shop and all the family’s dirty secrets start coming to light.

You’ll never get bored watching this show, so in between your studying, treat yourself by watching this captivating Mexican series.

  1. Elite

If you’re a fan of How To Get Away With Murder, Big Little Lies and Gossip Girl then Elite will be perfecto para ti!

Elite follows the lives of three scholarship students from working-class backgrounds attempting to fit into the most exclusive and elite school in Spain. The show is full of drama, romance and even an unexpected murder which fuels a police investigation into the lives of students.

  1. Jane The Virgin

If you’re new to the Spanish language or are thinking about joining one of our Beginner Spanish Courses then why not get to grips with the language by watching the show Jane the Virgin.

Jane the virgin is a light-hearted, romantic drama, loosely based on the Venezuelan telenovela Juana la Virgen. Although the majority of the show is in English, there will be some Spanish dialogue spoken particularly by Alba Villanueva, Jane’s grandmother as she only speaks Spanish.

As the title may suggest, the show follows Jane Gloriana Villanueva, a 23-year-old virgin who accidentally gets artificially inseminated during a routine check-up. The show is filled with all the great stuff, from shocking plot twists, romance, humour and tender family drama. The show is up-to-date on Netflix, with all 5 seasons, so go ahead start watching!

  1. La casa de papel (Money Heist)

La casa de papel is one of Netflix’s most-watched foreign-language original shows for a good reason. The show tells the story of a group of highly experienced criminals who plan to try to print and steal €2.4 billion ($2.8 billion) from the Royal Mint of Spain. There are plenty of head-spinning twists and turns, hostages and psychological games to keep you on your toes!

Season 3 was recently released on July 19 on Netflix, so there are more than enough episodes to keep your Spanish practice going.
