Event Description

Join us this Autumn for the launch of our Saturday Creative School, a unique course for children, designed to help them learn and practice their Spanish through a range of fun, dynamic and interactive learning activities.

We have curated a unique curriculum that invites children to enjoy the wonderful world of the Spanish language and culture. Highly experienced teachers and carefully handpicked Spanish and Latin American artists will introduce the children to their craft and guide them through its culture and language. From the basics of Spanish to more advanced story-telling, children will be stimulated and encouraged to learn, whilst having fun and making new friends! They will also be given a Creative School Diary to complete on a weekly basis, as they consolidate and progress with their Spanish.

This is an 8 week course, running from the 15th of October to the 3rd of December, from 10 to 11.30 am. It is open to children from the ages of 4 to 10, who either are new to the language or already familiar with it.

You can buy single sessions, but to take advantage of the full learning experience and gain savings, we recommend the whole pack.

For families who would like to sign up more than 1 child to the full course, they will receive a 10% discount off the total amount. If this is the case, please write to hola@batterseaspanish.com to get the discount code.

Schedule:

15th October:  Music and Percussion
Spanish musician and teacher Ulises will kick off the course with the beats and rhythms of Spain. Through a selection of different musical instruments and a series of constructive games, children will have fun making sounds whilst learning how to describe what they are doing in Spanish. Your child will be introduced in Spanish to numbers, actions verbs, adverbs of intensity and vocabulary related to music.

22nd of October: Food and cooking
Mexican restaurant Wahaca in Brixton will be our hosts for the day as top chef Ana guides us through the key ingredients of Mexican food and teaches the children how to make their very own guacamole! For this session, we ask that parents bring and collect their children from Wahaca, Brixton. Your child will be introduced in Spanish to food ingredients and action verbs.

29th of October: Dia de los Muertos/ Halloween Special
Both in Mexico and other parts of the world, this time of the year celebrates the fantastical world of magical creatures and make-believe. Through a sing-along and crafts session, children’s teacher Pia will invite the children to work together as they create their own masks and act out a Halloween inspired song. Your child will be introduced in Spanish to the names of geometrical shapes, colours and adjectives.

5th of November: Olé Flamenco!
Discover the history and ever-colourful expressions of Flamenco! Our very own Flamenco teacher Carmen will engage the children to stomp their feet and clap their hands as they dance along to the unique sounds of this Andalucian art. As they pick up a new choreography, they will also be revising vocabulary and action verbs introduced at the start of the course. Your child will be introduced in Spanish to the names of body parts and directions.

12th of November: Interactive Storytelling Part 1
Children’s entertainer and teacher Mar will help build a story with the children, as together they create a character and its own special adventure. Craft-making and dress-up begin the story before the children live out and express the emotions and obstacles their main character must confront.Your child will be introduced in Spanish to key vocabulary as well as being encouraged to check both general and detailed comprehension of the story.

19th of November: Interactive Storytelling Part 2
Mar returns to continue building stories with the children. Before revising together what was covered in the previous lesson and consolidating new vocabulary and phrases they learned, new characters will then be introduced as well as a more developed storyline.Your child will be introduced in Spanish to key vocabulary as well as being encouraged to check both general and detailed comprehension of the story.

26th of November: Latin American Dance
This will be an highly energetic lesson as children take a journey through Latin America and its music.Your child will be introduced in Spanish to actions verbs and different countries of Latina America.

3rd of December: Wrap-Up and Consolidation
For this last session, our very own dedicated teachers will help the children go through all that they have learned in the course. Their Creative School Diary will be completed and together they will share their experiences and go over as much vocabulary in Spanish as possible.
