In this one-of-a-kind event, flamenco singer Leo Power invites you to her Andalusian home for dinner, right here in Battersea! A native of Cadiz, Spain, Leo Power is a world-renowned flamenco singer who has performed in the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Theatre in Dublin, and of course, the Gran Teatro Falla in Cadiz. She recently won the “Gaditana del año” prize, the highest honour awarded by the city of Cadiz to celebrate flamenco.
In a show-cooking demonstration, Leo will teach you how to cook traditional Andalusian cuisine, which you will be able to enjoy after the workshop. The menu includes papas aliñás (a potato salad from Cadiz), sopa de pescado (a traditional fish stew), and torrijas (a Spanish version of French toast). And of course, to finish off, a little café con leche.
While the stew is simmering, Leo will teach a flamenco music workshop, relating each dish to a specific flamenco palo (flamenco style). You will learn about three styles of singing and the cultural context to each palo. You will also learn about flamenco rhythms and how to clap to each style.
In Andalucía, all good dinners end with a bit of dancing! To end the night, we will have a professional flamenco show. Leo Power will be accompanied by dancer Carmen Igarza and guitarist Pablo Domínguez.
This event will be bilingual, so everyone can enjoy it!
