Flamenco guitar virtuoso Manuel Montero comes directly from Sevilla, Spain to treat us with the presentation of his latest work, Confluencia, in an intimate show. With this intense, mature and personal work Manuel will take us in a journey through various musical genres, such as flamenco, classical and jazz with certain Andalusian influence, as well as various genres of Latin American music such as the bolero, samba or argentine tango, in honour to his Latin American roots. His amazing ability to move from one musical style to another with total aesthetic dominance is, together with his virtuosity, the common ground of this project where transitions between genders flow with total nature spun by a completely organic and global musical discourse.
In this beautiful and ambitious work that we are proud to host in his only London appearance, Manuel will be accompanied by the inspirational flamenco dancer Noemí Luz, who is travelling from Spain for this occasion, and the exceptional London based percussionist Demi García Sabat.
Of Confluencia has been said:
“By being from your town you become universal, as Machado said one day, in the case of Manuel Montero we find ourselves a guitarist from the world who, at times, seems undoubtedly from Jerez, or Salvador de Bahía, or rather from Buenos Aires or, of course, from Costa Rica. Whatever he wants. He is “pasao” of soniquete, compass y aire. Manuel is fresh air for the flamenco guitar, a guarantee of continuity and a clear example that hope is many times more outside than within the borders that are delimited by a few keepers of jondo art. We already knew it, but now we have no doubt that Costa Rica tastes, smells and sounds good. ” Pablo San Nicasio Ramos

This event is part of our Flamenco Salon Series, that brings hand picked Flamenco or Flamenco inspired pieces, conversations, installations, to an intimate audience keen to appreciate the best of Flamenco in London.

Manuel Montero – Guitar
Professional flamenco and classical guitarist, his work as a musical director, composer, and arranger has led him to perform in more than 20 countries within diverse projects ranging from flamenco, in its variety of expressions, to Latin American music, electronic music, classical music, world music and jazz among others. He has been recognised with 8 international prizes as a guitarist and composer. Originally from Costa Rica, Manuel has lived in Seville, Spain during the last 18 years.
“In Manuel Montero we find flamenco, elegance, a remarkable technique, and a total mastery of the classic Spanish guitar, allowing him to be perfectly compared with Sanlúcar, Riqueni, Vicente Amigo, and even if it could be thought as a blasphemy to compare him with the greatest maestro Paco de Lucía, his influences are undoubted, especially in his virtuoso technique and his outstanding elegance” Jondoweb
