Due to the ongoing situation, the 8-sessions in this course will be taught online via the platform zoom. We have been teaching via zoom since March with amazing results. At the time when face to face lessons can be resumed (hopefully this autumn), we will continue to offer the online lessons as well, for those of you who can't join us in person!
Sevillanas are a folkloric Andalusian style of Flamenco dance, danced at ferias/festivals all over Andalusia and have been popularised throughout Spain. We will be teaching 4 Sevillanas and this course will focus on the first two. Sevillanas 1 & 2 will be taught in a continuation course.
In this course, you will focus on the first two Sevillanas, and you will learn:
- The steps of each sevillana
- To work on body, arms and hand coordination
- To develop your own style and character
- Footwork: your instructor will incorporate footwork in the lessons, but you will have the option to practice it with flamenco shoes, or with trainers that won't create noise for your neighbours. There will also be footwork videos available so that you can practice this skill on your own time.
- The course is 8 classes that last a duration of 60 minutes.
For those who may have missed a class or are looking to brush up on their techniques at home, video tutorials specific to your class will be available on a weekly basis.
While Flamenco shoes are recommended, please do not worry if you are still yet to acquire any. Just make sure your shoes are comfortable and durable enough to protect your ankles (and no rubber soles!). For the ladies, if you have a Flamenco skirt, please bring it along! Whilst it also compliments the full Flamenca outfit, it gives you a brilliant chance to begin learning the moves, skirt in hand. Over the duration of the course, it is advisory that the appropriate footwear and garments are purchased to increase the authenticity of your learning process.
