Course Description

This Spanish Conversation course will take us through a cinematic journey through Spain and Latin America. Each film will address an important reality of the region and will give students incredible input to carry an engaging and thought provoking conversation in class, where lots of new vocabulary will be learnt, as well as multiple expressions to express opinions and carry on debates.

We have chosen top award winning films for this course that we are sure you will love. We expect the students to ideally watch the films before coming to class so that the conversation can be richer. All the films can be found for a very small cost in Amazon rental, I tunes, Netflix or You Tube.

This course is designed for high intermediate and pre-advanced students (B2 and above).

The screening calendar is:

- July 13th: "También la lluvia" Bolivia (indigenous movements and common goods access)
- July 20th: "Fresa y chocolate" Cuba (Cuban revolution and analysis of gender relations)
- July 27th: "Relatos salvajes" Argentina (glimpse into contemporary Argentina) You can watch this film here.
- August 3rd: "Amores perros" Mexico (glimpse into contemporary Mexico)
- August 10th: "Los girasoles ciegos" Spain (Spanish Civil War Part I)
- August 17th: "El laberinto del fauno" Spain (Spanish Civil War Part II)

There is limited availability and this is a very popular course. Book now to avoid disappointment.

Profile photo of Miguel Garcia

Ever since I was a child in Murcia (Spain), I have always been passionate about languages, literature and culture. I studied English at the University of Murcia and the University of Leeds, and afterwards moved to the US to do a Master’s in Spanish literature and Teaching Modern Languages. I returned to London to study a PhD at Royal Holloway on the works of Federico García Lorca, and I currently do research on Spanish literature and cinema, especially on the films of Pedro Almodóvar and new contemporary Spanish filmmakers. I am also an avid writer of poetry and fiction in Spanish and English. Being a Spanish teacher allows me to share my heritage and passions with students while providing a fun and enriching experience. Stick with me and you might get to try some delicious Spanish tortilla!
